Claire Clarke

I am the director of Aspire Tutor Services, as well as a professionally qualified lecturer and Specialist Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) Tutor and a Professional member of the British Dyslexia Association. I have taught reception children through to mature students. I enjoy the process of teaching and learning and am dedicated to “Multi-sensory strategies” in teaching. The British Dyslexia Association awarded me their national award of Inspirational Teacher 2023. In addition, I was voted the Support Tutor of the Year 2012 by the Student Union and recently had an article in the NHS Education Practitioners newsletter dedicated to the support I give NHS students. I have over 12 years’ experience of supporting students in further and higher education who are affected by specific learning difficulties including Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Autism Spectrum Disorders (and other Specific Learning Difficulties).
I adore my job and feel very privileged to be able to help people overcome their learning difficulties and thrive as students and individuals. As a Specialist Study Skills Tutor, Dyslexia tutor, AS tutor and mentor, I can support you with many aspects of study, for example, organisation, time management, reading, planning and writing, memory skills and revision strategies, plus the opportunity to talk through any difficulties or worries.
Through one-to-one sessions tailored to your specific needs, I aim to help you develop strategies to become a confident and independent learner.

I have over 20 years’ experience of teaching and supporting students. I have lectured in Science subjects in both further and higher education settings and have supported Further Education, Undergraduate and Post-Graduate students in a wide variety of subject areas including Science and Health, Social studies, Humanities and the Arts.
I recognise that each student is an individual and I can help to devise individualised and successful strategies for academic reading and writing, note-taking, planning and organisation. I am friendly and supportive and will provide teaching and learning strategies personalised to your needs and difficulties. This learning will have life-long relevance. Previous students who have initially doubted their ability to complete their course have achieved excellent qualifications and gone on to successful careers.
I am a qualified Further and Higher education teacher (PGCE post 16). Additionally, I have Approved Teacher Status and am a Professional Member of the British Dyslexia Association. I also have qualifications and experience in teaching and mentoring students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Attention Deficit (hyperactivity) Disorders (AD(H)D) and Dyscalculia.
I enjoy seeing students achieve their full potential, often beyond their own expectations.

I offer mental health and personal support, working together to find the best ways to cope with the challenges of student life and have considerable experience of working with young people and adults. I am a professionally qualified counsellor, qualifying in 2013: I have a BA Hons 2:1 degree in Person Centred Therapy.
I have an eating disorder qualification: Master Practitioner in Eating Disorders and Obesity, Higher National Diploma in Business and Finance, and Chartered Management Institute Certificate Level 6 (degree level) in Leadership and Management. The training I have attended includes coercion and control, self-compassion, bereavement, creative therapy, mindfulness and self-harm. Prior to becoming a counsellor I worked in Education for over 20years.
My main counselling approach is person centred, which is where we work together rather than me telling you what to do. My foremost aim is to establish a trusting and comfortable relationship so that we can look at issues that are troubling you, and develop strategies to help you work through these issues in ways that fit for you.
